Thunderstorms-Droppin Knowledge

I love thunderstorms!

Why? Well, that's easy to answer. I think thunderstorms charge the atmosphere around us, creating a palpable energy field. I don't know if I am more in tune with the energy field that surrounds us all, but it truly feels that way. During a thunderstorm I can feel this surge of energy rushing through my body. It makes the tiny hairs on my arm stand on end. I feel as though I can almost join the light in the sky and become one with the universe.

I know, it's weird...but that's just how I feel.

According to sky-fire.tv a thunderstorm is:

Warm, moist air rising in sufficiently large volume with a high enough velocity results in a thunderstorm. The fuel for these storms is warm, moist air present near the surface of the earth. If the atmosphere around the cloud is unstable, that is the temperature of the air falls faster than that of the rising parcel air within the storm, then the updraft becomes ever more warmer than the air outside, and therefore more buoyant. The release of latent heat when water vapor turns to liquid and then the liquid to ice further warms the rising parcel, stoking the “fires” of the updraft. A trigger is often necessary to get the warm bubble of air rising in the first place. Sometimes it can be a warm air thermal rising from a large, heated field or a sunlit mountain top, or the upward motion produced by fronts pushing air together so it has no place to go but up.

Last night I had the rare pleasure of watching a lightning storm that was soundless. That's right, no thunder at all. The air was heavily charged with electric particles all around me. I stood in awe as the sky lit up over and over again with fractured light, splitting the dark clouds in eerie silence. It was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. I stood there for several minutes waiting for a loud "crack" to shatter the night air and break the silence, but there was nothing.

It was perfect. Absolutely perfect.
